Happy Holidays from Jerger Pediatric Dentistry! It's December and time to announce and congratulate our November Smile of the Month Club members. Each month Dr. Jerger and his team like to honor the children who show exemplary home care with brushing and flossing routines that result in a cavity-free smile.

An excellent home care routine of brushing twice daily and flossing once combined with regular dental examinations and teeth cleanings every six months helps kids keep their teeth clean and smile bright!

Congratulations to everyone who made November's Smile of the Month list!

The holidays bring lots of sweets and goodies with them, and we want our patients to enjoy themselves. However, families can do a few things at home to minimize the impact of sugary treats and protect small smiles from tooth decay and cavities over the holidays. Here are some helpful tips from your family dentist in Decatur:

  • Don't forget to brush at least twice and floss each day. Brushing your teeth after eating sweets is also a good idea.
  • Be sure to also enjoy the healthy parts of your meals like fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies help neutralize the acids in your mouth that cause tooth decay.
  • Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and wash away excess food particles in your mouth after meals.
  • Visit your dentist in Decatur, IL, when it's time for your bi-annual teeth cleaning and checkup.

Nutritious foods (like fruits and vegetables) are essential for keeping your smile healthy and bright. So, while you should take the time to enjoy yourself and some treats over the holidays, maintaining a healthy and balanced diet throughout the year is one of the keys to success for your smile.
